1 Identify the problem

2 Research and brainstorm

The next step is to gather information and generate ideas for your robot design. You can research existing robots or technologies that are related to your problem, and learn from their strengths and weaknesses. You can also brainstorm different ways to approach the problem, using techniques such as mind mapping, sketching, or prototyping. For evaluation, consider using a well known Robotics stack or OS, there are many open-source options out there that provide a usable and robust platform, where engineers can focus on the business case instead of the complexity of the technology. Deploying a Software In The Loop (SITL) environment and a simulator can provide a costless base platform where engineers and scientists can experiment with ideas, which can feed also the research and brainstorm step as well. ROS and Gazebo are examples of well-known Robotics stack (OS) and simulation platform. Other could be ArduPilot , MAVLink protocol, jMAVSim (or Gazebo) and, optionally, QGroundControl or a companion computer running MAVSDK and your software.

4 Implement and iterate

The final step is to implement and iterate your robot design. You need to translate your idea into a working robot, using the appropriate tools, materials, and methods. You also need to monitor and measure the performance and outcomes of your robot, and identify any issues or gaps that need improvement. You can then modify and optimize your robot design, by applying new knowledge, skills, or techniques, or by incorporating new features or functions. The process of implementation and iteration is not linear, but rather cyclical and continuous, as you can always find new ways to enhance your robot design.
