Therefore, it is important to make your resume visually appealing and easy to read, especially if you are applying for jobs in creative or competitive fields. Here are some tips on how to do that.
The first thing that recruiters and hiring managers notice is how your resume looks. A cluttered, messy, or confusing layout can make a bad impression and discourage them from reading further. To avoid this, choose a clear and simple layout that highlights your most relevant and important information. Use consistent fonts, colors, and spacing, and avoid using too many graphics, images, or fancy elements that might distract from your content. Make sure your resume fits on one or two pages, and use margins, headings, and bullet points to create white space and organize your sections.

Don't extend the margins - when you open a Word doc, leave the margins as is! Hiring managers need white space to be able to quickly read your resume - too many words and lack of spacing make it very hard to read. Font sizes matter - your name should be the largest at 18 - 20+. Resume categories should be in capitals and bold at 14 font. The body of your resume should be 10 - 12 font. Ideal fonts are: Arial, Tahoma, or Calibri. The font (IMO) to never use is Times New Roman! It was the default font forever and makes your resume look dated. Avoid heaving shading, lines, text boxes, & borders. They can easily "tangle" with ATS systems when uploading.
The resumes that I create for my clients use a simple layout. And I encourage others to do the same. In general, a black-and-white resume with a single font works best. That type of layout is the easiest to read/scan and tend to work better with Applicant Tracking Systems.

To me, the job description is your pot of gold holding the jewels (keywords) necessary to appease the ATS and the humans. Old school Pro tip: print the description and highlight (yes with a highlighter) all those jewels/keywords you have or are working on attaining. Then print out your resume. Now, find the first highlighted keyword or phrase from that job description. Is that exact word on your resume at least twice? No? - let's get it on there. Repeat... over and over till all the keywords they employer wants are on your resume. Oh, and remember that employer keywords may even be synonyms for words already on your resume - switch 'em up! In my opinion, the most important section of your resume to customize is the Career Summary. You should think of this section as a Positioning Statement, in which you provide evidence that you meet the key qualifications for a particular job. Look at the qualifications section of the job description and look for specific qualifications (e.g., education levels, certifications, years of experience, computer programs). And then talk about how you meet those qualifications. And be specific. For example, if one of thee qualifications is experience with SQL, give an example of what you've done with SQL in your Career Summary.

I would highly recommend using a tool such as Grammarly (The free version) to check for any spelling or grammar errors. Microsoft word sometimes tends to miss key spelling errors, hence why I would recommend Grammarly. You could also ask a friend, family member or colleague to review your CV for you and check for any errors.
The best Resumes I've read and created are the simplest. Less is more. Keep your design simple and succinct with power words, bullet points and white space.
'Visually appealing' is subjective and that is incredibly important to remember. You should NOT do what you think is best because it is pretty; the name of the game is getting a job. 1. Make the resume easy to follow and read for a recruiter. 2. Group your experience points based on the skill. (Put all Analysis together, all collaboration together, etc.). 3. Speak the LANGUAGE they speak; do not use terms they are not familiar with. 4. Please double-check check your bullet points are the same size and aligned well. 5. Soft Skills go on a cover letter, and hard skills go on a resume. 6. Do not add references in this day and age of scammers, they must be protected. In closing; do not over complicate this.
