If you're securing interviews, but not offers, it's time for some self-reflection. Make sure you're applying for jobs that you're a reasonable match for based on the position requirements. Prepare for interviews by researching the company. Network with people who work there to get their insights (and endorsement). Develop stories about skills & experiences you've had with results to demonstrate that you can make an immediate impact if hired. During interviews, focus on what you DO have - not what you lack. Ask thoughtful questions based on the company, culture, & job description. If the position appeals to you, tell them. Send a customized thank you note that night & remind them of a skill you have that you know is important for the job.

One of the major reasons why we reject resume is the lack of initiative from the candidates part. In the internship notification, in the JD, we usually keep the expectations, required skills, job that needs to be done, in great detail. But the candidates, a good majority of them, dont even take some time to do a proper reading of the JD and send a Resume which is in no way linked to the JD we provided.

Applying online is one of the most difficult ways to land an internship position, and referrals are the most powerful way to be considered for an interview. It does not matter who gives you the referral, what their role is at the company, or how good the referral is, what matters is that you have a referral that will get your resume seen and get you an interview. In what ways can a referral be obtained? Let's consider using our university's alumni network. Reaching out to alumni at the company we are interested in obtaining a referral for, discussing their experiences there, and asking politely for a referral would be the way.
