What do you do if your recruiting team is struggling to meet their targets?

First and foremost, ask questions and see how you can help. It may simply be adjusting their process and helping them to work smarter not harder. If it is something deeper or out of their control, guide them, listen to them, help them overcome the challenge and succeed. I'm all about the data and KPI's, etc. but I'm also more about the people. If your team is not "well" they will not succeed.

Finding out the root problem to why targets are not met is crucial in terms of identifying areas for improvement. First of all there are various areas to keep an eye on such as KPI's. Recruitment is a numbers game, the more activity the more likely you will achieve targets or even surpass them. At the same time; by doing this you're more likely to discover gaps and patterns that you can rectify to allow the whole hiring process to run more smoothly. This also also allows takes to be completed in a timely manner and enables targets to be achieved which is an important aspect of the job role.

Determine the underlying reason. Be the first to share my own firsthand knowledge. Put best practices into action. instruct and mentor my group. Track and evaluate the team's advancement. Talk to each other and work together.

I'm a strong believer of learning something new everyday. Think about it... You have a team you manage and you have targets along with KPI's for them to achieve. If there is close to insufficient training; how do you expect to have good (ROI) Return on Investments? If you truly care about your teams career progression; time should be set aside for things such as performance reviews, one-to-one meetings, group meetings, training sessions and constant help where needed. The advantages of doing this will give room for feedback where team can learn and develop key interpersonal skills along with other key attributes which are needed to be consistent in seeing positive results.

Training and coaching your recruiting team involves: 1. Conducting regular training sessions on sourcing techniques, interviewing skills, and candidate engagement strategies. 2. Providing resources like workshops & mentoring programs. 3. Offering personalized coaching sessions to address individual strengths and areas for improvement. 4. Encouraging team members to shadow experienced recruiters. 5. Providing constructive feedback & tracking progress. 6. Empowering team members to take ownership of their development through self-assessment and goal-setting. By investing in training, coaching, and creating a supportive learning environment, you equip your team with the skills and confidence to excel in their roles.

Check if team members have the right skills and knowledge for their jobs. Give them training, workshops, or mentorship to improve their skills and keep them informed about what's new in the industry and the best ways to do their jobs.

Emphasize candidate experience: Teach your team to prioritize a positive candidate experience. This includes clear communication, timely feedback, and a respectful interview process. Happy candidates, even if not hired, can become ambassadors for your company. Leverage data analytics: Encourage the use of data to track metrics like time-to-hire, source of hire, and candidate satisfaction. Regularly review these metrics to identify areas for improvement and celebrate successes. Develop a strong employer brand: Work with your team to create and promote a compelling employer brand. This includes ensuring your job postings reflect your company culture and values, and actively engaging on social media and employer review sites.

Monitoring and measuring progress is key; schedule a weekly or bi-weekly call with the hiring manager to review the progress. If the recruiter is struggling to find candidates that meet all of the "requirements" ask the recruiter to show you the profiles they have found and the reasons they don't match what is needed. By going through profiles together it may identify that what the hiring manager is looking for does not exist, or is extremely hard to find and therefore comes at a cost premium. It also allows the recruiter to tailor their search moving forward when searching for a further pool of candidates.

Speaking to your team and understanding the problem area and working together to overcome the challenges and finding solutions is key to solve any issues related to targets. Ensure that your recruiting team has the necessary resources, tools, and support to perform their jobs effectively. This may include access to recruiting software, databases, job boards, and other resources, as well as adequate staffing levels and administrative support. Also, recognize and reward individual and team achievements to reinforce positive behavior and motivate performance improvement. Celebrate successes, milestones, and achievements publicly to boost morale and motivation.

Prioritize open and transparent communication to understand their challenges and concerns. Collaboratively brainstorm potential solutions or adjustments to strategies, ensuring alignment with overarching goals.

Make sure to ask your team members often about what's hard for them, how things could be better, and where they might need more help. Take their answers seriously and use them to make the way we find and choose new team members even better.
