Lorsque j'interviens pour une industrie spécifique dans laquelle je n'ai pas d'expertise, je m'abstiens de donner des références à cette industrie. Une mauvaise référence, et c'est votre crédibilité et la confiance des participants en vous qui partent en fumée. Et c'est irratrappable. N'intervenez jamais sur un sujet que vous ne maitrisez pas. Si vous êtes crédible, expert et légitime, tout en étant préparé, vous ne serez jamais dans cette situation.

Something that I always try to do, to establish trust with my listeners or my audience, is to get to know a little bit about them, before I engage them as an emcee or by giving a talk. I take the initiative to arrive earlier, so as to mingle and interact with those individuals, who would, in the following hour, be listening to me. When I'm finally on stage, and ready to address the crowd, there is no fear anymore, simply because I am now looking at familiar faces. Familiar, because I had spoken to them and I now know even a little more about who they are.

Showing vulnerability is the public-speaking equivalent of a cat showing its belly: we expose our softest, most protected side, to signal that it is safe to do that here. In other words, I make myself vulnerable because there is no need for power posing between us right now. This doesn't mean the speaker gives up their authority. Only the display of authority that would lead to a power imbalance between themselves and their audience.

Une bonne pratique est de demander un retour sur mon intervention très rapidement après celle-ci. L'organisateur est généralement celui qui a recueilli l'ensemble des retours internes, il est un point de passage obligé pour moi. De plus, je reste toujours à disposition du public après une intervention pour répondre aux questions qui n'ont pas pu être posées, ou pas voulues être posées publiquement. J'en profite alors pour recevoir un feedback.
