In 20+ years of CAD system implementations, the fear is usually worse when the company has NOT prepared for the transition, which usually requires: - Allocating enough time for training - Identifying the team members who are more receptive to the change - Having a difficult conversation with the employees who are resisting the change without valid arguments

As a business owner, I ALWAYS quantify the benefits of the CAD implementation and make sure to highlight the savings compared to whatever system the client currently has. A return on investment is the ONLY benefit that counts, as without that anything else is just a "nice to have"

Training programs can be useful in a long-term view. With spaced but consistent training sessions, it's possible to gradually establish a new culture within the company. It's important to emphasize here that the effectiveness of training programs is directly related to the participation, presence, and acceptance by the leadership. If the leaders don't buy into the idea and don't understand the importance of training, neither will their employees.

The main problem with rolling out training programs is that most businesses don't allocate enough time for training. Accessibility and encouragement are of little help when there is no time allocated for it

You can also encourage your employees by creating interesting gamified challenges filled with rewards (tests, assignment, practical exercises) in the training; this will promote team building and fast track learning curve

If you have Lean Six Sigma training, you can try to create a project scope. Within this scope, you must prove with data a specific pain point. This type of technical validation tends to be more accepted. However, Six Sigma or Lean is not the only way; you can try to initiate these changes with a Kaizen project, which is of shorter duration and lower investment.

Initiate pilot projects or small-scale implementations of CAD innovations to demonstrate their feasibility and benefits within the organization. Select a cross-functional team to participate in pilot projects and provide feedback on their experiences. Use pilot projects as opportunities to test new technologies, identify challenges, and refine implementation strategies before scaling up to broader adoption.

I always assume that a trial period will be required and build it into every proposal. That usually gets the conversation started amongst team members to select a "live project" that can also be used for training

Piloting project is a good start to succeed in any project. For example learning a programming language and trying some coding after every day of study. Piloting a project you aren't familiar with us the easiest way to learn you will definitely make a lot of mistake but you will definitely learn faster.

From a vendor side of things, keeping an open line of feedback/tasks is one of the key factors to success. Initially weekly feedback on measured kpis or milestones is a great way to ensure your team gets what it needs. A consistent mix of quantitative and qualitative feedback responses will help guide the vendor to provide additional resources in important gap areas. It also creates a strong relationship, helping the team overall

I don't agree that a feedback loop is always the best way to deal with resistance to change, specially if the most insecure team members start asking questions before they have a basic understanding of how their workflow will change.

Encourage open communication and solicitation of feedback regarding the adoption process, user experience, challenges, and areas for improvement. Cultural change doesn't happen abruptly. It's a consistent effort that needs to be carried out over months or years. If you achieve any change, it requires great effort not only to achieve new changes but also to maintain the progress made. Utilize visual management systems to clearly show leaders and employees the returns that the changes are generating, and use these returns as justification and motivation for further improvements.

This is very true. In real life experience, I have seen valuable employees up and quit because of a complete overhaul in process or application without much thought put into the learning curve required for said employees, especially long standing employees, who have learned to do things a specific way for years.

I started the change to CAD by drafting detail pages only. The plans were still hand-drafted. Times got busy when I was CAD drafting details for others as well. This was a gradual change, and we were able to reuse many of the details on other projects which saved resources. Eventually, plans and details were all on CAD. The Boss never made the transition to CAD, and was always at the mercy of others to facilitate resources.

Adoption is most successful when information is sticky/memorable. Telling the information via a story/game/creative experience helps information stick to Memory recall and diffuse resistance. TED talks are a good example. I created a nostalgic shoots and ladders game to deliver the importance of not closing out of revit error messages and assessing how to troubleshoot the message content. Creative delivery goes both ways, for either impressing the importance of adoption up or down within a business. Having approachable experts within studios/sectors as follow up to more engaging exercises is also very important. I'd suggest reading "The tipping point" by Malcom Gladwell to understand to help make something sticky.

The first fear that comes in the heart of the workers is the fear of been sacked due to the inability to meet up with the current trend. As an employee is very good to update your knowledge in whatever you do. Because your stay in your job is solely dependent on your employer so you should always be useful to the company at every point in time. The solution. -Go for online courses. -Approach senior colleagues for more knowledge -Google advance practices of your job in advance countries. -Make research on easier and advance ways of solving your firm problems.
