Try your best, learn from the best, seek feedback from others and make little progress everyday to reach the summit a step at a time. Unfortunately, most people wait for the elevator or a helicopter to get there and lose out, disappointing self and others

In my experience coaching leaders we discuss how they can take ownership for their growth and development on a consistent basis. One of the ways that gets omitted at times is tapping into your stakeholders for open and objective feedback that can serve as fuel to build your path forward. Build your Board of Directors that you can rely on consistently. Make sure it is a group with a diversity of thought and experience so that they can support you from all different aspects as you continue to grow into your leadership role. Be proactive. If your organization doesn't have the programs you feel will be beneficial, go out and tap into your stakeholders for resources, materials, and partnership to support your evolution as a leader.

Learning and discomfort are often linked. I think the first step to learning as a leader is to get comfortable with being mildly uncomfortable. I find that often, the mild discomfort that I'm noticing in the workplace is a signal to me for an area that I can learn more about. Sometimes, the discomfort might signal that I have an opportunity to learn a new skill, create a new boundary, develop my communication skills, and, on occasion, leave the situation entirely.
