Additionally I would check the status of the Wi-Fi to see if it is connected, but without internet. Also try out to reach a public domain with at least one call. If you turn off the Wi-Fi and the mobile device connects to the internet, than it's a problem between the Wi-Fi router and the Internet and not on your mobile device.

This is only the case if you can't connect to a network or to a wifi. If you're connected to the network than it's often not a hardware problem with the device and rather some kind of network connection issue.
