What do you do if your logical reasoning in building design isn't getting through to stakeholders?

As people from a tech background, we also need to understand that everything we do, do have a funding requirement. If the goals of the designers and the goals of the funders (i.e. "business") don't align, you are not going to run a successful project/product.

If stakeholders aren't grasping your reasoning in building design: - Start by revisiting and clarifying project goals with them. (Misalignment may stem from a misunderstanding of objectives.) - Open a dialogue to ensure everyone’s expectations align, understanding their priorities and concerns. - Tailor your communication to address these specific points, using data, visual aids, and relevant examples to make your case. - Facilitate collaborative sessions for engagement, identify and leverage influencers among stakeholders, and remain flexible to incorporate valid feedback, ensuring a cohesive, accepted design solution.

This is one of the most important point of achieving success. If stakeholders are not aligned together then project either will not be successful or will take more time and resources to achieve desired goals. It’s always better to open dialogue and get everyone aligned towards agreed objectives/goals.

There will be a SteeringCo made up of all stakeholders or stakeholder's rep. Each one has different view and opinion given different business and education background. Some quesitons might sound nonsense from technical perspective but could be truely what stakeholders value. "Put yourself in other's shoes" will help you to understand their rational and reach the alignment, OR at least the majority

With seeking feedback it's important that it is reiterated back to the stakeholders to ensure the feedback has been understood. For any feedback received it should be clearly shown to be addressed so stakeholders feel listened to and valued.

Again, visual or some easy flowchart, diagram will be easier to explain the complexity especially your audience dont have the same background as you. The will appreciate if you can speak their language to make things easier

It's good to recognise that people absorb information differently, so a combination of visual and textual approaches helps. Similarly, some people need to understand concepts at a detailed level whereas others close down with too much detail. Considering your audience and the level they work at adds value to the message you want to get across.

use flowcharts to outline project workflows, Gantt charts for project timelines, and pie charts for budget allocations. Tools like Microsoft Visio, Tableau, and AutoCAD are commonly used to create these visual aids. These tools provide intuitive and impactful ways to present data, making it easier for stakeholders to grasp complex information and align with the project's objectives. A mockup screen is one of the best ways to communicate the user journey and it will help stakeholders to understand from user perspective.

Including stakeholders all through the process, keeping them up to date on progress and giving them a voice at key change management techniques. Most people are naturally resistant to change being put on them, but if they are part of that change, they will embrace it and be your champions.

It is not easy to educate your stakeholders in short period by your knowledge and experience accumulated for decades. However alignment is needed, i would prefer to list clear "pros" and "cons" and make all thinking process move visual so as easier to reach the alignment or get the approval
