Update them! Interesting that 'I have been selected' - whilst I am proactive in maintaining research methods skills through reading, research and application to problems, linguistic research is not my specialism - but I do know that a deep dive is not always related to entering a swimming pool in a particular manner

I agree. Keep learning. Have an active search of the method you are using. Go to conferences and talk to people who are doing similar research and see their methods. Go to webinars of the company that you bought the machine from and see what updates they have.

In my case, I always return to the roots, to the classic authors. It may not make sense, but it's all built from there. Thus, I keep the correct path when I face new methodological currents. Then I try to update myself through reliable sources, conferences and readings.

Research and researching attitude are different by definition. Research done is past. If research is not exploited, furthermore work becomes standstill. Then starts diversion, research attitude looks different and finds her way in different direction. Material world research subjects need linguistics dependency, "aadhyatmic" research never finds standstill. That is sure. One has to progress in right direction.
