It’s crucial that there be a game plan going into the interview. Secondly, be cognizant of what’s happening/not happening in the interview. Sometimes, the questions being asked are not allowing you to showcase your job specific skills. Here’s where self reflection and self awareness come into play. You’ve got a game plan, remember? Make it happen! Tie in your leadership skills, force it if you have to, to insure that it’s been addressed. This is your moment to sell yourself, even if it means you bringing it up when it’s question and answer time.

In answering this question, if my leadership skills are overlooked in a hospitality interview, I need to reflect on why that might be the case. Perhaps I didn't effectively showcase my leadership experience or accomplishments during the interview. I would invariably seek feedback from the interviewer or others in my network to understand areas of improvement. For example, I could ask the interviewer if there were specific qualities or experiences they were looking for in a leader. Additionally, I can seek feedback from mentors or colleagues who can provide insights into how I can better articulate my leadership skills in future interviews. Nothing more, nothing less!

Also, so that it doesn’t seem like you’re coming out of left field, if the interviewer asks you for an example of a situation, you may include where you used the skill or situation they were discussing and add this portion in order to make your point. However, try to be succinct while doing so.
