Reflecting on ourselves is probably true for each profession as the database of knowledge and especially technologies are evolving very fast. Being true to the basics of industrial engineering would always help in reducing probabilities of gaps in your knowledge. It is true that the skill set might change overtime to streamline the manufacturing processes and one can set smaller goals to improve on their skills, but it is equally important to keep our basics simple and clear to achieve optimization in the Industry.
