Based on my experience, employees who don't feel a sense of ownership and involvement in an implementation will resist usage of the system in one way or the other. Having interactive sessions where the users can bare their mind about their challenges with the system, and making conscious effort to address them will boost confidence and improve adoption. Also, having a reward system for units or departments that adopt the system for their processes will go a long way. Continuous support and training make them learn better ways of doing things. Lastly, Management need to also drive system adoption by discouraging manual processes, this will make the employee put in more effort to make the system work, rather than abandoning it.
Drawing from my experience, it's imperative to highlight that many companies often underestimate the importance of change management when implementing new systems. On several occasions, I've witnessed how this oversight can significantly impact the adoption and effective utilization of software.

The lack of engagement with a system can have several reasons, attachment to the previous system, lack of training, training language, ERP response speed, etc. However, in the field I have always noticed that employees' biggest frustration is not understanding the need for certain data entry steps. It is very important in the training and in the support material to explain the reasons for the steps, this creates a feeling of understanding of the process and even with problems, the team ends up feeling that they know the system in more depth, creating a closer bond. In addition helping with possible improvements because they know better the ERP.

At best, an optimal ERP system will not disengage employees. Engaging employees is something that leaders do, that people do. It's not something that boring systems do.
