What do you do if your deadlines are at risk?

By addressing factors like resource constraints, unforeseen obstacles, and scope changes, you can minimize delays and ensure project goals are met, ultimately leading to successful project completion on time and within budget.

Evaluate whether the original deadline was realistic based on project requirements. - Work Back Exercise: Break down the project into tasks and create a reverse timeline. Determine if the current timeline is feasible. - Consider critical milestones and business needs driving the deadline. - Resource Evaluation: Assess the resources needed for each task. Ensure the existing team can handle the workload. Consider adding resources or reallocating tasks if necessary. Agile Approach: If behind schedule, adopt an agile approach. Break the scope into smaller parts. Monitor progress closely through daily meetings or calls.

Always set deadlines within deadlines. Personally, I would always set my deadlines (what I call internal deadlines) within deadlines to help always beat the external deadlines. Working this way reduces your risk of missing external deadlines as I have more control over extending my internal deadlines if need be but still within the external deadlines.

Learn and Improve Review and Reflect: After the deadline, analyze what caused the delay and how it could have been avoided. Gauge all your activities and establish those that will have the greatest impact if they remain unaccomplished against those with minimal impact. Allocate the available time and resources and sort out those activities that will have maximum impact if not attended to or sorted out.

So I believe in the power of communication at every phase of a project. Consistently communicating to stakeholders at every phase would pre inform all stakeholders whether or not we would meet deadlines and the need to either extend deadlines or even if possible amend deliverables on time.

This is a good time for peer reviews. With deadlines looming, one os more prone to errors due to rush and anxiety. A good peer review would help monitor progress and quality of work done.
