What do you do if your database system's data visualization lacks creativity?

Change is the only constant. As the world grow, the look and feel of visual is also require creativity. So research the new patterns, graphs & tips for new Visualization.

Data visualisation has different needs for different stakeholders. I have used hourly, daily rolling average etc. type of reports for business. As we grew, we started using CDC and used tools like clickhouse etc. to give more power to our product managers and marketing team. As we grew even further, we needed to have automated templates & even integrated alerts based on the report. e.g. , few of our monitoring alerts were on hourly bookings, on a comparison of population till n-1th step to nth step. This helped us in identifying that something is wrong somewhere quickly, even if there was no error in logs, maybe it was just because of an A/B test or some calculation issues. Data visualisation needs to be planned to fit the case.

Visualization is key for reporting , marketing & presentations. Currently a lot of tools are present in market. But Power BI & tableau has captured the market. I really feel good working In power Bi. It has all new features and updated contents as per market need.

Color combinations can attract your Data more than the actual figures. Different color for different aspect show the exact segregation of the data. New combine color combinations with growing patterns can attract the audience.

Colors bring life to data. They can be used in different contexts. For example: - Showing contributions of different data segments - Showing deficit - Showing an upward movement - Representatives of different quadrants and much more. That said, we should try using Flat color palettes. They are generally a little easy on the eyes. In addition, palettes are generally chosen by UX experts and thus it is better to use them over your custom combinations. That said, I highly recommend having dark and light both types of modes and if possible themes. They reduce power usage and help with prolonged data exploration.

One of the things to prioritize in such case, is to integrating interactivity. This means enabling users to engage dynamically with the data, allowing for exploration and deeper understanding. By incorporating features like interactive dashboards and drill-down capabilities, users can tailor their viewing experience, enhancing both creativity and utility.

Another approach one could consider is ensuring that the data tells compelling stories. Rather than presenting raw numbers and charts, crafting visualizations that guide users through meaningful narratives fosters comprehension and engagement. By identifying key insights and weaving them into stories, a more engaging experience can be achieved.

To address creativity gaps, refining design elements is essential. A focus on enhancing aesthetics by selecting visually appealing color schemes, layouts, and fonts can improve the overall visual impact. Additionally, paying attention to details such as data labeling and chart styling ensures clarity and elegance in the visualization.
