What do you do if your creative vision is not getting across to a potential employer during an interview?

If I feel like the cool ideas I have aren't quite clicking in an interview, I'd share real-life stories about how my creativity has made a difference in past projects. I might also tweak how I talk about it, trying to connect the dots between my creative flair and what the employer is looking for in a way that feels more relatable.

Simplify your message. Break down your creative vision into simpler terms. Use clear and concise language to articulate your ideas.

Prepare visual materials such as mood boards or presentations to help visually communicate your ideas. They can provide a clearer understanding of your vision and make them more memorable.

One of my favorite things to do is to cherry pick projects that are closely related to the brands business. That way they can actually visualize the work you do and what you can do for them. I don’t share everything I’ve ever done, just the relevant stuff. Just enough to win their trust and get them excited to work together.

Customise your creatives. Align your ideas with the employer's brand, values, and objectives. Show how your vision can complement and enhance their existing strategies.

I love this…I love sharing wins and losses and explaining what we learned from it. This demonstrates your tenacity and overall experience. Prospects love to know they’re working with experienced people and not always do you hit home runs, but as long as you acquire a valuable lesson from it, it turns into a positive experience. Plus story telling builds rapport and keeps the prospect engaged.

Break down your creative vision into actionable steps. Present a clear roadmap that outlines how you intend to bring your vision to life, including milestones, timelines, and key deliverables. That will help your audience to understand your ideas and easier to adopt them.

I aligned with this…for me sharing my pure excitement and idea for a creative concept is part of pitching process. When you believe in yourself and your own vision - the execution becomes even better. Sometimes you just get inspired, don’t hold back. Clients love to see that you’re excited about their business.

Change the employer....its not worth your time and effrots.....its a big market and the will be someone else who will understand this vision ...

Collaborate. The best ideas are when both the prospect and you are aligned on the vision. When you share a common vision and goal you build insane trust and when you both win, it’s an ultimate success. But if you both lose, you both learn a valuable lesson from it.
