What do you do if your creative skills can save lives in emergency management?

If creativity can be used to save lives or property in an emergency then embrace it, sometimes the text book approach and training just doesn’t meet the needs of the situation at hand. In my experience, putting creative ideas on the table can result in positive outcomes, so speak up when you need to.

Creativity is about being resourcefulness in a such kind of situation that you have knowledge but you don't have so much resources to use that knowledge,,,,,then only your Creativity can an unfavorable situation into a favorable situation. And also who knows your Creativity could be more efficient than your knowledge in any situation. Because ideas brings solutions.

Nothing beats a think tank when looking at ways to address an issue or leverage an opportunity, use the people around you, put your ideas on paper and work through how they can be actioned. If you have access to research and resources that is great, but in an emergency that could be a whiteboard exercise or scribbling in a notebook that can later be reviewed and evaluated.

1. Smart Bracelets for Evacuees: Design wearable smart bracelets for residents in disaster-prone areas. These devices can track individuals' locations, monitor vital signs, and send distress signals with location data to emergency services during a crisis. 2. Augmented Reality (AR) Evacuation Maps: Develop an AR app that overlays evacuation routes and safe shelters onto the real-world environment through users' phone cameras. In an emergency, users can follow AR-guided paths to safety, avoiding blocked or dangerous routes. 3. Autonomous Supply Drones:Use autonomous drones equipped with AI to deliver emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine to isolated or hard-to-reach areas after a disaster.

I’ve seen some great examples in the field, community leaders door knocking to spread messaging when Comms fail during a disaster, to local groups organising to work with emergency service providers on how to prepare for emergencies, in my experience you need to cast your net wide and involve as many stakeholders as you can, it can provide some innovative ideas we often overlook.

1. Augmented Reality for Damage Assessment:Using augmented reality (AR) apps on smartphones or AR glasses to overlay real-world disaster scenes with valuable data, such as safe routes, structural assessments, and utility line statuses. This can provide first responders with critical information at a glance, enhancing safety and efficiency. 2) Mobile Medical Units with Telemedicine: Deploying mobile health units equipped with telemedicine capabilities, allowing disaster-stricken individuals to consult with doctors and specialists remotely. 3) Gamification of Emergency Preparedness: Creating educational games or apps that simulate emergency scenarios, aimed at educating the public about disaster preparedness in an engaging manner.

Brainstorm innovative solutions for handling crises, devise efficient communication strategies, and design practical tools to aid responders and affected communities. Whether it's creating visual aids, developing new protocols, or thinking outside the box to solve complex problems, utilize creativity to its fullest extent to make a meaningful impact.
