1 Be honest and confident

The first rule of thumb is to be honest and confident about your strengths and weaknesses. Don't try to pretend that you know something that you don't, or that you have done something that you haven't. That will only backfire and damage your credibility. Instead, acknowledge the gap in your experience and explain how you are willing and eager to learn more about it. Show some examples of how you have acquired new skills or knowledge in the past, and how you can apply them to the content management role. Demonstrate your enthusiasm and curiosity for the field, and your ability to adapt and grow.

Honesty is the best policy. Reframe your gaps as opportunities for growth and share examples of when you started previous roles with gaps and how you acquired the skills needed to fill those gaps. For example I had an interview where I had never heard of the system they were working on. I shared an example of the role I was currently working in where I had to learn several new technologies in a short space of time. This showed that I am a fast learner and I take every opportunity to upskill myself.

Be Honest: Transparency is key. Be honest about the reasons for the gap, whether it was due to personal reasons, pursuing further education, taking care of family members, or other circumstances. Highlight Skills: Use this as an opportunity to talk about experiences you gained during that time which are relevant to the job you're applying for.
