Lastly, I'll get a good night's sleep to feel refreshed and ready to showcase my skills and enthusiasm. To stand out, I'd also prepare a unique opening statement that showcases my personality and highlights my passion for consulting. Additionally, I'd bring a creative visual aid or presentation to demonstrate my skills and ideas effectively. Finally, I'd focus on building rapport with the interviewers by asking thoughtful questions and actively engaging in the conversation.

Prepare also on the interview panel. Research who is going to be the interviewer, what’s their career and experience. Understand the stakeholders and their roles.

The case interview is central to consulting, but it's not just about memorizing frameworks. If you're short on prep time, focus on understanding and internalizing key concepts instead of details. The process should feel conversational, enabling you to ask clarifying questions and integrate live feedback into your approach. An aptitude for learning and confidence will come in especially handy if you lack a formal business background. Review major frameworks like Porter's Five Forces, SWOT, and the 3 Cs, but avoid rigidly sticking to any one method; interviewers spot this quickly. Aim to demonstrate structured thinking, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset. Finally, make sure your initial analysis and final recommendation are both MECE.

In consulting behavioral interviews, your personal brand is like a vision statement: it's the blend of your core values and the pragmatic steps you take to translate them into the world. To stand out, consider sharing unconventional stories that reveal your problem-solving skills in non-traditional settings- like how you applied consulting principles to a community project. Talk about how you've learned from failure and leveraged those lessons to become more resilient and resourceful. Highlight experiences that demonstrate your ability to work with diverse teams and across different cultures. Be authentic in presenting your values and experiences, while demonstrating an understanding of the company's ethos to show you're a natural fit.

Personal Brand is confirmed by People. Basically you need a reference for your words. Seek connections between yourself and the company. Either via colleagues who already work at the company, Customer or common connections on LinkedIn (between yourself and interviewing panel). Example of something useful are also LinkedIn recommendations from Customers / Coworkers. Similarly your personal brand can be confirmed by events or awards. Make sure to highlight those in resume / LinkedIn with details of your achievement.

Under strict time constraints, soft skills will help you compensate for a (reasonable) lack of technical preparation. In my opinion, the three most important types include: Problem-Solving: Show comfort with navigating ambiguous situations, but also the ability to identify and hone in on logical patterns as soon as they materialize. People Skills: Demonstrate that you can work effectively with clients and team members (and how fun you are), showcasing empathy and the ability to understand different personalities and global perspectives. Communication: Find the right balance between processing feedback rigorously and charting an aggressive path toward self-improvement, while also knowing when to confidently present and defend your ideas.

Research the company dress code. If unsure ask before the interview on what are expectations. And remember it’s almost always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

It's generally advisable to dress slightly more formally than the company's dress code, but keep in mind that interviews are about the impression you make, not just formality. If the company has a casual dress code, opt for a neat but relaxed look to stay comfortable while taking notes and thinking on your feet. For virtual interviews, focus on what's visible to the interviewer- ensure your upper half is professional and appropriate, but feel free to dress comfortably elsewhere to help you stay at ease and perform at your best.
