Further, marketing team should be ready to handle inquiries received from customers, press, social media and be ready to issue public statement.

Concurrently, securing systems against future breaches becomes imperative, often mandating heightened measures. Communication with stakeholders is vital throughout. Cooperation with law enforcement agencies, particularly in cases involving criminal activity, is essential. Post-incident, conduct a comprehensive analysis to understand the causes and implement necessary policy and procedural adjustments. Regular reviews and updates of security practices help in staying ahead of evolving threats. Providing support for affected individuals is equally essential.

I agree with all the points above. Containment and assessment are really important when a breach happens. In addition, communication should always happen at every phase. The organization must have a solid communication plan prior to an attack to help guide their communication.

The recovery phase is crucial. “How do we continue operations and resume our services”? What steps do we need to take to mitigate the breach? Are our controls effective? What’s the next steps regarding our stakeholders?

Data breach is not a pleasant situation to deal with. 1. Isolate breached asset, contain the damage 2.Engage stakeholder - mgmt , IT, legal etc to assess the regulatory impact. 3. Investigate, identify root cause, document lessons learnt 4. Monitor your controls to ensure no traces of malicious actors in the envirornment. Make sure all assets under your scope are protected.

Proactively communicate with regulators, customers etc. as required and needed by applicable laws. If making public / media announcements for any reasons, ensure legal team checks ’the statement/s’, such that they won’t become an obstacle to insurance claims and court proceedings, if there be.

Regarding third parties - check your SLAs to ensure that you have rights to audit their systems with zero notice period. If you suspect your cyber breach is due to a third party you need to be able to investigate that without delay. Many SLAs require 7 days or more notice period.

Quantify the Loss, if any What’s important is to quantify the loss to the company due to breach either now or in possible future. Also, to the third party and take legal advice; if any legal action needs to be initiated.
