What do you do if your communication skills need a boost?

Improving how you communicate is all about getting better at listening actively, using both your words and body language effectively, and being open to feedback. It also means putting yourself out there, like speaking in public or joining group discussions. And hey, reading up on communication or taking a class can really help too! Get yourself out of your comfort zone and use your resources.

Read! Pick up a book and start reading. Different genres and different writers often help me look at my communication style through a different lens.

If my communication skills need a boost, I proactively seek feedback, engage in targeted practice exercises, and invest time in improving both verbal and nonverbal communication. Additionally, I prioritize active listening, refine my message clarity, and leverage resources like workshops or courses to enhance my skills further.

First, accept the fact that you need help in that skillset... then take the appropriate training and classes to address the shortcoming.

Always always ask for feedback. It can be scary having others highlight your failures or weaknesses but I promise you that seeing the path to improvement and that feeling of progress will drown any insecurities you may have had.

You can only be as good as those who you seek to learn from - ask for feedback. Find a mentor - if you’re impressed by someone, tell them and ask them to share their secret.

Learn how to listen a feedback is extremely important! It’s not just about ask what people think about the way you communicate or what they thought about the subjects you bring - it’s very important understand how the environment before you speak and after that. What have changed after you exposed your ideas?

Something that has really stuck with me & helped me in this area is a something I read along the lines of: The mistake many people make is thinking that they have to feel confident to act with confidence, but it's actually the other way around: confidence comes from taking action. Ever since I heard this, I have been living by it, and speaking up has become much easier. The more I do it, the more confident I am, even if I don't feel it in the first place! You can be brave and scared at the same time, making a deliberate choice to practice & improve.

Be a Social Butterfly, attend social occasions & network, read books/articles to keep improving mindset & grammar, write blogs/case studies about your events & it's respective achievements & challenges... Practice being Extrovert...

I’m a great fan of the use of games as learning processes. RPG moments are very useful for it! When we play our communication skills are refined.

"Get comfortable being uncomfortable". Communication is one of those skills that gets exponentially better with practice, and the most effective way to practice is by putting yourself out there. It can be daunting, but as long as you're being genuine in your interactions and are making a conscious effort to improve, results will follow.

In my experience I practice public speaking by joining groups like Toastmasters to gain confidence and receive structured practice and feedback. I also practice speaking in front of a mirror or recording myself to observe and improve my delivery.

Reading is always one of the most important actions to improve communication skills. It’s not so important if you are reading a book or articles in a device, have contact with other people ways of communication amplify our capacity of make our own communication more flexible.

The conscious use of technology is powerful when we talk about communication skills. When we talk about it is important understand that tech is a part of our life, intelligence is a great technology for itself. Choosing the best ways to communicate is a great skill. There are subjects that can be addressed in an email, others need the voice tone of a call.

1: Find a local Toastmasters club and join. DO this immediately and commit to their program. It's a game-changer. 2: Find a local introduction to Improv course and sign up. Do this during your Toastmasters club. The Improve will change your life and have a significant impact o your communication.
