What do you do if your civil engineering project is affected by low emotional intelligence?

If my civil engineering project is affected by low emotional intelligence, I would prioritize improving communication and interpersonal skills within the team. Understanding and addressing the emotional needs and concerns of team members can help build trust, enhance collaboration, and ultimately improve project outcomes. I would also focus on fostering a positive and supportive work environment, encouraging open dialogue, and promoting empathy and understanding among team members. Additionally, I would seek feedback regularly, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships within the project team.

In my experience, I have ensured that during recruitment, among the behavioral assessment questions to potential candidates; EI is inclusive. Similarly, I factor in the technical skills assessments questions EI components and through these, most of the successful candidates have exhibited minimal low effect. Additionally, through meetings, continuous reminders/communications are echoed to the team in areas of EI since its identified as a risk item on the risk register.
