It's not what you know or who you know; it's what they know about you. If you show your work and character online, the right people will see it and reach out. Lunches are still the best bang for your buck when networking. There is something special about sharing a meal and getting someone's focused attention for an hour. And all that for less than $50.

It's always better to have a mentor who is only a few years/steps ahead of the mentee. This allows for more relatable experiences and transferable skills since it likely happened recently. Don't think that you don't have something to offer as a mentor. You are the best choice for the person a few years younger than you. And you'll love the feeling of giving back to the community!
