What do you do if your boss is not receptive to your ideas?

First and foremost, put yourself in their shoes. What do they care about? What is important to them? What is not important to them? Try to understand their perspective so you can appeal to their priorities.

I think the worker must have a positive mindset ( including environment and everything involved) and must be thankful to have a boss that listen.

I like to set my goals to any negotiation/ conversation so it’s clear for me the outcome from that exchange (otherwise both sides just loose energy). When you have the outcome in mind, it helps to bring a wider perspective to the conversation and bring the other person to your side. It’s also helpful to use the 3 agreements technique: you ask 3 questions in sequence that the answer can only be yes (try to make it generic and related to your goal). After the person agreed with you three times they are likely to be more open to your points of view and ideas.

"This isn't the military" is a refrain I commonly here. Yet the persistence of effective action is a necessary component of applied engineering and training in the same field. Specifically, as a NASA contractor at KSC, a Siemens Energy QC in a production factory, and a ride technician at a major theme park, relating the organizations principles to the concepts learned and proven in the military allowed me to demonstrate successful processes with effectiveness. The successes of the ideas presented themselves when quarterly and project reviews were complete. Now, the manager's are asking "How did you make that work?" instead of me having to 'sell' the idea from the start.

In my experience, ownership and accountability is central to building a relationship of trust with your boss. Once they see that you can walk the talk, and follow through, you will likely have a better chance of getting a fair hearing the next time you have a plan. Anyone can have a good idea - making it happen is the real skill. Scepticism about your ability to deliver, or a bad experience in the past, may be the real reason they are holding back in the first place. Reset the game.

It’s vital in strategic communication and marketing not to take things personally. In environments where business, creativity and pressure meet, tensions can often run high. You may also lack full visibility on all the other things going on in a leader’s life, from budget concerns to family pressures. Keep it professional, not personal.
