Another example could be explaining what a Contactor is, in making & breaking a circuit in a high voltage Environment requiring no human input during Industrial Panel design.Such wld trigger his interest & build his confidence.

In my experience, this has been the most effective method, everyone has their own skill set and in a collaborative environment it is a two way learning process.

Collaboration works in any environment, whether in solving design challenges, or working thru operational challenges. Its best to put all options on the table, without bias. Some stakeholders have a different basis for making a decision than only technical parameters. In my experience I have seen supply-chain considerations and project timelines trump technical and quality considerations (obviously with some guardrails). Be prepared that your perspective may not be the one driving the ultimate goal.

Suggesting training for your boss/manager is a risky thing. Its best to be there as support and provide them assistance when they are not SME. A good manager will seek out training if they feel the knowledge gap is important enough for their work

I’ve never outright suggested training but I have suggested he spend a few days observing team members in order to spark intrigue or in some cases scare them away opening the door for them to trust me and allow project control without question.

Rather than advising him to learn, to train, to escalate it, just call the concerned Expert in Electrical Design and make the product outcome and show the results to the Boss. I believe in Actions which matter more than words..??

actually most of time our bosses lack understanding of electrical design process. in the other words, most of times it's also no need to have tecnical information about electric design process but their technical team should be gotten technical consepts and operation and Maintenance process from our trainings and designing team documentation.
