What do you do if your boss lacks digital literacy skills?

Keep in mind we don't judge a fishes ability to climb a tree. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Offer to support and teach those who are willing to learn.

Allow him learn from you. Teach him the basic digital literacy skills. Enrol him for a digital course allow him learn gradually

Well, I’ll respectfully offer to help improve his digital skill, emphasizing the benefits of improving his digital skills for the growth of the organization. Patiently provide resources that can help him/her improve or offer to bring in external trainers who will act as consultants.

Before solving any problem you need assess the situation. Observe areas for education and improvement and come up with a plan on how to execute.

Explain it like they're 5. Ask what parts they don't understand, ask what they do understand, then help them build their understanding. Remind them that everyone learns something for the first time.

Offer Support, If Willing Then Schedule Dates And Times To Ease Him Into The Flow Of Digital Assertion. Play Interactive Games And Help Provide Links For Independent Learning On Youtube And Other Relevant Sites.

In your observation process think of what type of learner your boss may be. As you formulate a plan to educate them think of those ways and how they may learn best.

My first professional job, my boss was a great typist but didn't like computers. Those were the days of Wang, then came Microsoft and Word Perfect. I really wanted to help her be more technical because of how fast the technology were developing. The positive was she sent me instead to learn to type and use the technology. I became more proficient in typing, learned how to use Wang, then Word Perfect and unto the formidable Microsoft. It was a great experience and I thank her because everything I know today is due to her generosity and willingness to have other people learn. Today she uses computers instead of typewrites, but I'm sure she has a typewriter somewhere in her environs.

Practice makes perfect. Encourage your boss to take on digital task then may have taken in before. Offer your assistance if needed but encourage them to take on the task on their own.

In any case it is not a big burden for me to repeat the 'instructing' experience some time later if and when needed ... say after few months later or next year (if it is something that is created or repeated on a yearly basis). On the other side, I do not encourage him for frequent practicing on particular subject(s) as I know the boss has other things to do, and that is easier & quicker for me to assist him in producing new data or other digital content before the deadline.

Most bosses have an open door policy. You should do the same for them. If they need you as a resource or reference then definitely be there for them.

One thing I've found helpful at work was when challenges arise, I can provide the needed resources for the team. In addition, accept brand-new teaching from the team.

I am someone who asks a lot of questions in order to make sure I’m doing the job right, so I strongly believe this should go both ways. Being a resource, allows you become a trustworthy asset.

See above ... By the way, one of the main bosses' roles is to distribute particular tasks across the team (not to do particular things by him/herself). In that view, I'd rather assist in doing some of those tasks when needed, rather than to see the boss overloaded with operations that may be done easier by 'lower' team members.

Offer help in any way possible and recommend easy-to-understand tutorials or guides that can help improve their skills. Always remember to be patient and understanding, as everyone learns at their own pace.
