For example, you are currently at a position x which requires certain competencies, if the skill set matches the skill set required then it is a great fit. If your competencies are greater than what is required of your current role. You can always start by analysing what you have done in your current role , which acts as a strong conversation starter . And then ask to volunteer for projects that will help you demonstrate your skillset towards your goal.
