Everyone who deserve requires recognition immediately. In today's virtual world it is very important you acknowledge the achievement asap in Public forum that can be Daily standup or Sprint/PI Demo. Followed by a recognition card with all stake holders in CC. Obviously based on company policy provide some points/gift card etc. Also based on impact motivate individual to publish a paper/whitepaper/invention disclosure so that he receive recognition across the company. Doing above not only helps individual but also motivates other team members.

This would be the best gift ?? A job, money, praise are all ephemeral things which will not amount to much value for the person who literally figured out a make or break solution for some of the hardest problems in your business. The least you could do is value their contributions by offering them a clear path for progression in their careers which automatically brings recognition and money with it.

Every one in the team who has worked hard requires recognition. It helps in motivating employees and building confidence also providing a positive competitive environment. A simple pat on the back or a word of encouragement is what everyone looks for. An email recognition for such work looping in all the senior management and team would highly motivate anyone where an individual would get the exposure for his work. Highlighting one's contributions in standup up calls or project retrospect can be highly motivating. Providing the individual with more challenging projects would elevate his trust that is shown on him making him feel capable. Asking to provide KT of the work done to other team members also acts in recognising one's work.
