I believe this topic is more specific to areas related to architecture and urban planning; however, any engineer can seek specialization in the field, dedicating themselves to researching and developing new technologies, systems, and processes that can improve efficiency, sustainability, and quality of life in smart cities. This may involve working in areas such as renewable energy, public transportation, waste management, urban automation, and much more.

In my opinion, data plays a critical role in all industries, and urban areas are not excluded. Knowing as much as we can about traffic flow analysis will enable us to make decisions more wisely. For example, in some cities like Istanbul or Bangkok, the traffic can be so annoying that you would prefer to walk to your destination. Thus, an industrial engineer plays an important role in these circumstances. With data about these areas and cities analyzed, we can make better decisions about what we should do.

To shape the future of smart cities as an Industrial Engineer, specialize in urban planning, collaborate with experts, innovate sustainable solutions, advocate for policies, and stay updated on emerging trends.

Sustainable cities is best approach to any idea regarding cities' futuristic idea. It can lead towards smart cities to vibrant cities. Industrial Engineer could used the multi-disciplinary knowledge of the field to optimize the resources of city and provide good solutions for most suitability. Of course Industrial Engineer need to gain knowledge in Urban Development & Sustainability.

At higher level i think the economic plan should be considered, the main reason that people are going to leave in this city and how this city os going to make value.

The best sustainability mindset is the non-production of waste, often referred to as "zero waste". It is an approach that aims to minimize or completely eliminate waste generation. This approach goes beyond traditional environmental concerns and focuses on resource efficiency, material conservation, and waste reduction.

Engineers can focus on intelligent traffic management systems to address challenges related to urban mobility and transportation. These systems use advanced technologies such as sensors, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and communication networks to optimize traffic flow, improve safety, reduce congestion, and enhance overall transportation efficiency.

If we want to achieve excellence, we have to take technology along! Technology is not the end, but the means that can overcome current challenges. Many times, when it was deemed impossible, technology proved otherwise.

As engineers, we should make the difference by implementing methodologies. Specifically, combining technical knowledge with procedures to carry them out. This way, engineers can improve well-being of citizens by means of useful ideas. So, integrating industrial tools and machines in the daily life. Finally, we could make cities more attractive and comfortable.

The most important part of future life is based on data. The fact that we should learn from our past experiences plays a special role here. Therefore, we need people who know how to handle data. For example, industrial engineers who study subjects like operations research (OR), or computer scientists and engineers who have experience in data mining or building databases with SQL. Thus, these fields that interact with data will play a crucial role in the future. It’s worth mentioning that I haven’t spoken a single word about one of the most important fields that is, of course, leading our evolution: machine learning.
