What do you do if you want a promotion?

It's important to take an informed decision before changing your career path .Over the years sometimes I have acted with impulse and looked for some of my senior people leaders for advise and guidance. Skilling and fitting into the next role definately gives one a career guidance to step into the next role .Asking for the next promotion depends on your performance in current role and the will to succeed so confidence and concrete results make it easy to negotiate and move to the next step ??

Keep updated and adding new skill as you go along not only for a promotion but even otherwise to stay relevant in the virtual team. Once you add a skill through a training or certification do update your line manager in case he/she is already not aware. This will help build up your case and also add as boosters to your promotion case.

Continuous upskilling is crucial in today's rapidly evolving work landscape. Staying informed about leading technologies and trends ensures that you remain competitive and adaptable in your field. Additionally, humility and a willingness to share your knowledge and skills with others not only fosters a collaborative environment but also reinforces your own learning and growth. It's a win-win approach that benefits both you and your colleagues, ultimately contributing to a more innovative and dynamic workplace.

Un buen consejo que recibí es siempre comunicar y no asumir, por eso considero, que este paso aunque parezca obvio debería ser el primero a realizar. Comunicar a mi líder/jefe inmediato me ha ayudado a generar un feedback que encamine mis habilidades y capacidades hacia el puesto deseado.

Te comparto lo que he aprendido: 1ero: Preguntar al inicio de la contratación Usualmente te recomiendan que preguntes si hay línea de carrera y ante esta pregunta la mayoría responderá que si o que las oportunidades uno mismo se las genera, ambas son respuestas validas. Sin embargo, una recomendación que recibí fue pregunta: cuándo fueron los dos últimos ascensos y en qué áreas. 2do: Conocer en qué organización estás. Hay que recordar que existen empresas como las startups donde puedes ascender al mes y por otro lado, empresas donde ascienden sólo cuando se jubilan o renuncian. Es una realidad que necesitamos estar conscientes que existe para caminar hacia dónde queremos llegar.
