In my experience, it is important considering the flexibility of the new technology acquired. It can be a mistake investing in very custom solutions that would only apply for one product. So, aside from scalability, I would consider how this new technology can be applied into different areas and what would be the occupancy. Low occupancy and low flexibility technologies might end up unused.
