What do you do if you want to maximize space efficiency in building design using logical reasoning?

It’s crucial to thoroughly analyze the needs of the future occupants. Understand the activities that will occur in each space, the number of users, and their specific requirements. Logical reasoning suggests that multi-purpose spaces require flexibility, while single-function areas can be tailored more specifically. This detailed analysis informs decisions on room sizes, layout, and the integration of furniture and equipment.

For me, after 1) doing a deep discussion on the space's functionalities I then 2) look at maximizing for the primary tasks that have been identified. We 3) create a hierarchy of needs so that smart storage such as utilizing vertical height and efficient use of depth creates the impression of more space without the need to change the actual size of the space. Consider this, when designing an area that needs to be both functional and beautiful, make sure that the inspiration of our client does not lead to us ignoring the ultimate test: timeless functionality.

Following the briefing with the client, sometime going back to basics is the perfect solution. Close your eyes and visualise how the user, visitor etc. would interact with the space. Mental visualisation is the best tool before you put pen to paper. Visualization techniques can really enhance your design process.

Optimize Layout: Use open floor plans where possible to reduce the need for partition walls. Design multi-functional spaces that can serve more than one purpose. Design spaces that can adapt to changing needs over time.

Data collection is the key factor at this stage, using questionnaires, site analyst and client interviews to collect all the data that can help the designer to create traffic flow diagrams

When creating a layout, it’s a good idea to draw icons that that represents noisy areas, creating a 3-D stimulation game with all this factors and share with the occupants so they can rate their experience and give feedback is an untraditional way to design the layout
