What do you do if you want to make a sustainable impact in retirement?

Education whether formal or informal is a golden tool in our era. To acquire relevant knowledge in areas such as waste management, green design, eco-friendly construction practices, among others is very important. After retirement, picking up a green cause can provide a source of fulfillment. This is vital especially during these times when we are constantly under the threat of the adverse effects of global warming. Acquiring and dissemination of knowledge on key areas can provide a huge impact in the long term. This further provides a sustainable edge against climate change and its effects on nature. Together we can achieve more and lead a sustainable future. ??

Adopting more sustainable construction materials and energy sources within our homes is very important. This also trickles down to areas such as the choice of food were making. Is that extra plate of beef really worth the cost in terms of it carbin footprint? Can I make a much healthier meal choice and contribute to my ecosystem by eating a vegan meal? As an expert in the built environment, I come across a lot of scenarios where I am required to adopt green and sustainable practices. My firm, "Evans Engineering and Construction," has an obligation as well in building a greener future for generations to come. This is by advocating for more consciousness in the design process in the areas we live and work in.

Not to blow my trumpet ?? but I usually volunteer quite often in my community. Community activities such as tree planting and community cleaning tend to be my sort of thing in my area. So I would say that I am quite versed in this area. With that said, it is very important at this time to volunteer and to do it more often. We have crises such as the oceans and seas being littered with tons of plastic. This problem is affecting biodiversity within all areas in our ecosystem. It's like a circle of cause and effect and part of the solution is spending less time on the sofa on a Saturday weekend and lending a helping hand to community efforts.

Advocacy is one area we seem to be working on very well. As a matter of fact there are a number of organisations (which I shall not mention) that are doing a great job in advocating for more sustainable practices. After retirement, we tend to have more time on our plates and I couldn't imagine a better way to do it. In the event that you find it impossible to participate actively due to age, how about donating to one of these organisations that are making an impact globally?

With the carrot and stick method, we encourage and reward good practices while discouraging negative practices. Money is a necessary incentive for firms seeking to make a profit. This can be used to our advantage by supporting firms that are committed to reducing their carbon footprint. This applies on both sides of the spectrum, we will have firms that are polluting our environment being pushed to adopt more sustainable practices. It is our responsibility to use whatever resources we have at our disposal to build a more sustainable future.
