Analysing Alternatives is an important part of Planning. Proving a feasible option is not sufficient, but to understand what other feasible options exist and how your chosen option is better than all other options. This ensures the best plan gets the consideration and public funding. I remember in Greater Manchester Spatial Framework prepared by 10 local authorities were rejected by the Planning Inspectorate on the account that the plan doesn't consider alternatives and how it is ensured their plan is best our of sll alternatives.

The final step is to choose the best solution or strategy that can solve the problem or achieve the goal. You need to justify your choice based on the evidence, logic, and reasoning that you used in the previous steps. You need to explain how your solution or strategy meets the criteria and standards, and how it addresses the issues, challenges, and opportunities. You also need to anticipate and respond to possible objections, criticisms, and feedback from others.

No jargon! Break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand steps. Use the idiot guide.... Use visuals! Maps, charts, and 3D models can paint a clear picture of how your plan will improve traffic flow, green spaces, or whatever you want to focus on. What worries might people have? Address them head-on, explaining how your plan solves those issues logically. Pay attention to questions and feedback. Use this to refine your explanations or even adjust your plan if something new comes to light.
