What do you do if you want to learn computer repair on your own?

I always recommend people take apart a computer and use their curious brain first and foremost. Start with top down and carefully and handle the parts. Lay your parts out in a clear schematic and work your way backwards when youre done. You'll be surprised how far you can get on your own.

A good way to get started in computer repair is getting a cheap computer and start taking it apart and just trying to break it - then trying to figure out how to fix it. My foray into computer repair was as a 10 year old deleting the system32 folder off my parents computer trying to get more hard drive space. After that I learned that was wrong. Later in high-school, computers were being upgraded and old ones were about to be thrown out. I took home 10 computers and started taking them apart and assembling into working ones. One thing I would encourage techs to do is seek out CompTIA A+ classes, Network+, and Security+ and try to get certified. Certifications are a great way to show employers practical knowledge as well as an ability to receive instruction. I know that traditional learning environments are not for everyone, I myself struggled in institutional learning, but certifications and the process of acquiring them are a great way to build and show foundational knowledge. Basic skill : RTFM ! You just can't repair a motherboard without the proper manual, to download on the constructor's website. You should just also update EPROM and all drivers as the furnished ones are always outdated and subjects to security concerns.

Paitience and jentlyness even with the heaviest stuff. Just remember, when you learn something new, you can not already know it... so go slow. And always, trust god :)

Learn from them. - Expect the unexpected to occur. I have bricked a client's motherboard by installing an approved BIOS from the OEM's website. That was my first time bricking a motherboard and I don't expect it to be the last. - It is a good idea to keep a known good work SSD that has a barebones operating system on it to test in computers you work on, to rule out Software issues.

Best bet would be to start with YouTube and build your own computer. Learn by troubleshooting and wrapping your mind around how computers work. Build an understanding of operating systems and install the one that you feel will work with what level of involvement you want to have with your computer. DON'T EVER BUY PRE-BUILT SYSTEMS...
