For example, many larger studios use proprietary software, whether that be tools, engines, or even 3rd party software that most individuals can't afford. So showing them you are adaptable and can learn on your own, especially as a new grad, means you may be able to pick up on something like a new engine, without as much ramp up time. For my last interview, I spoke about teaching myself the UE4/5 UI tools, the difficulties I faced, how I overcame them, and things that went well, with examples from my portfolio. This let the interviewer know that I had the ability to pick up the studio's proprietary UI system, in a engine I had very little knowledge of.
