You turn the spotlight around, away from yourself and onto the team, and try to find words that make them feel seen and heard. That, essentially, means stepping off the hero’s pedestal and leaving it to the team. (And yes, in a way, that means that the best way to impress is to not try to impress them.)

I like to think of these two things: 1. How will I start? 2. How will I end? And then add a third.... 3. How can I make sure the end refers back to what I said at the start? The rest is easy to fill in with main points, stories and anecdotes. But what I want them to remember most is what I started and ended with.

One structure that has helped me organise almost all my speeches & training sessions is the one by Terry Borton. According to it, your entire speech can be divided into three main parts: 1. What? 2. So What? 3. Now What? The "What?" consists of your core idea. The "So What?" consists of your rationale behind it. Your reasons, research, surveys, experiences, and stories. Basically everything that supports your "What"! The "Now What?" consists of the future plans and the call-to-action towards your audience. What do you want them to do? This way, you don't feel the pressure to convince anyone. It just flows smoothly with the audience ready to take the action you wanted to convince them with.
