What do you do if you want to gain practical experience in marketing through internships?

In this particular field, I believe it's essential to remain open to trying new approaches. Therefore, it's important to tailor your goals to align with the new strategies you're exploring. For instance, during my internship with a professor at IIMB for a clothing business project called Krigi Solutions, I came across WhatsApp marketing. I then set a goal to develop strategies aimed at driving business sales through WhatsApp.

Start by thinking about what you truly want to get out of your internship experience. Maybe it's about mastering a specific marketing skill, understanding how a particular industry works, or simply making meaningful connections. For instance, if you're passionate about storytelling in marketing, your goal might be to learn how to craft compelling narratives that resonate with audiences.

Once you've identified your goals, you need to appropriately update your resume but more importantly tie your goals with tangible value (demand, topline or bottom line) to the company you are applying for the internship. You may have to tailor your application for each company you are applying to. Doing this will automatically help you prepare for the interview.

Some ways to get started: 1) Send a LinkedIn connection request to the HR manager of the companies you're interested in interning with to receive notifications for their posts. Ensure your own profile is up-to-date. 2) Register on platforms like Internshala and Unstop to explore internship opportunities. 3) Connect with individuals who have previously interned at the company to learn about their experiences and growth within the company.

I've discovered that creating a resume that catches attention, especially in the creative field, often involves standing out by doing something unique. Your resume is your chance to showcase what makes you stand out as a potential marketing intern. One thing I've found helpful in succeeding in interviews is being genuine and truthful in my responses, in addition to focusing on basics like confidence, articulation, and knowledge

You never know – a casual conversation could lead to an internship opportunity or valuable advice on breaking into the industry.
