Self employment is the state of not working for an employer but finding work for yourself or having your own business. Many people like the flexibility of self-employment. The word flexibility is key; hence in order to excel in your own business you need to be agile as well as fluid in your responses to the ever changing external environment something which organizations cannot always do. Majority of the wars are within the businessperson not outside. Battles might be outside if you can understand what I am implying here. You need to be adept at managing risk of UNCERTAINTY especially financial downsides. Be ambitious but pragmatic. I think without a Goal is just like Sailing a Ship without a Rudder. - A clear Goal is like a roadmap to a Journey. One Should always start with a pre-defined goal in any field. - Breakdown of a Goal in small tasks and objectives helps you to measure your target and success. - You can ask multiple question to yourself to find your goal like What we want to achieve, How can we achieve it,How much time it will take to achieve tha goal.

In my experience to excel in self-employment, you need to adopt a mindset of unwavering determination and continuous learning. Develop a strong passion for your expertise and have a strong commitment to achieving excellence. Ensure you set clear goals and devise a strategic plan to attain them, remaining adaptable to changing circumstances. I also stress surround yourself with mentors and a supportive network, utilising their expertise and guidance. Remember your network is your net worth! Embrace setbacks as opportunities for growth and resilience, learning from them to drive yourself forward. Most importantly, maintain persistence, stay focused on your vision, and never lose sight of your goals.

Number one tip: Treat yourself as an employee. Yes, you are technically the boss, but you need to hold yourself accountable to not only a schedule, but business practices, integrity, culture, etc...

When I started the journey in self employment, I realised you needed to be confident even if you didn't always feel it and reach out actively to companies looking for medical writing support with a personal approach. Have a plan to ensure that if you didn't work for say 6 months you'd have enough to live on.

This is my favorite topic, and I strongly believe that as a self-employed individual, you are the social media manager and PR executive of your own services. Utilize all professional networking platforms and social media platforms to showcase yourself every day. You must become a BRAND. You can achieve this by sharing valuable insights from your industry, giving back to the community, and sharing frequent updates about your work. Become a compelling STORYTELLER and continuously share your story—why you exist and the problem you're resolving. This approach can make a significant difference in your journey.

LinkedIn is an excellent place to market yourself. You don't need to post memes to become relevant. Writing LinkedIn articles or newsletters is a great way of building content and sharing your knowledge to potential clients and employers. Use hashtags wisely, according to your field of interest. Be mindful of your skills, add certificates and share ideas, projects and comment trending topics in your field to help validate your expertise.

Define the need for self-employment. Once you define it no matte what do not go back. Visualize the business P&L. Be prepared to stay grounded during your first success and the first loss. Never ever give up on something that you build.

One thing I find helpful are seminars/webinars. To keep yourself updated on new techniques, strategies, technology and opportunities for your clients. Trends start and technology follows to keep up with it. Look for things you can utilize to make your experience with clients better and to keep up with emerging technology.

In my perspective the most important is decide what you want to do the goals the target and the way to reach, the product or services you gonna offer and how to reach your target market with adequate finances.

Working for yourself, you are going to have some great wins and other times be kicking yourself for making mistakes. We learn so much more from the mistakes, than the wins. It's going to be ok, you'll grow from it, get better, stronger and more resilient. Often the mistakes lead to innovation and wonderful new ideas!

Two things come to mind and they will be something you’ll appreciate at deeper and deeper levels as you grow. 1) Be committed to doing harder things than you thought you’d have to do for longer than you thought you’d have to do them. Business isn’t a sprint, it’s an ultramarathon with no finish line, the point is to see how far you can run. 2) Until you’re making $1 million in net personal income, the single best investment you can make is in yourself through coaches, mentors, and masterminds. Once you’re making that, it’s still best investment you can make and others now can offer a justifiable ROI.

My humble suggestion is to learn how to write a business plan. The plan could give you a framework or outline for your ideas. The benefits of a business plan include strategic thinking for long-term and short-term objectives, marketing strategies and resources needed for your goals. A few of the main components of a business plan include an Executive Summary, Products and Services, and Competitive Analysis. For example, what is a brief overview of what you are planning and who are your direct and indirect competitors? Besides information from the Internet, there are courses for entrepreneurs at colleges and universities that could help you in developing your plan. If writing is not your strength, perhaps ask someone you trust to help.
