What do you do if you want to establish a powerful personal brand in Cybersecurity as a beginner?

To establish a strong personal brand in cybersecurity: 1. Learn and excel in cybersecurity skills. 2. Share insights through blogs or talks. 3. Connect with industry leaders. 4. Engage actively in discussions and projects. 5. Stay updated with the latest trends. 6. Be consistent and authentic in your messaging. 7. Always prioritize ethics and integrity.

Before we define our goals, I would recommend to explore the different branches of cybersecurity. It is a vast field that doesn't only involve hacking or protecting devices. It has a lot more to offer. You would need to go through materials explaining few of them and select the one that peaks your interest and diver deeper to understand it. Cybersecurity is connected to other technologies and concepts with in cybersecurity and the It in general.

Continuous learning is something you cant avoid in any field or stage of life. The technologies are changing with faster phase than ever, and keeping up with them as well as mastering them is kind of tough. But you need to select something you really love and dive deep as the basics can help you in other strands of the emerging technologies. Make the foundation strong and just go with flow.

I see many recent Grads entering Cybersecurity and diving into the *Big* certifications like CISSP and CRISC. Very few have any better luck getting hired. I always recommend getting your Security+ first. Employers in Cybersecurity want you to have that technical knowledge, foundations in how networks operate, assessing the security posture of a network, project management skills and implementation skills. It does not sound as fancy as the bigger names, but employers respect it, and for many, that was THEIR first certification.

There are some incredible Cybersecurity groups and communities out there that are devoted to diversity. Cyversity.org, AnitaB.org, and WiCyS groups offer mentorships, upskilling programs, webinars, and course training. If you are a woman, part of an underrepresented group or a veteran, one or all of these are great places to start your networks.

When I started all the help I had got from my networks on LinkedIn and in person ones. They helped me and guided me on various stages with career and material guidance. I have been in contact with them and still talk to them regarding the new cybersecurity trends, guidance and projects. They even help you out with job opportunities as well.

As a beginner you wont be confident to share the content or create content. You don't need to be expert in something, but keep in mind to not share fake content just for some clicks. Build in public is something that I have always seen work for people in creating content and being consistent as well increase there reach and network.

Create a Medium blog and share two articles a week. Journal your beginnings in cybersecurity. If you learn it, then do it, teach it to retain it!

Well. You're going to need a hacker handle. Don't go showing up in the community as tylerewall and expect to be taken seriously!
