First of all it is good to know what unexpected issues are. If it is to do with the new requirements, design, or performance of an app or just the new build/version was not correctly delivered or some issues with CI'CD pipeline occurred. Once we know what is wrong, then, first of all we need to understand how urgent are those issues, how often they occur and to prioritize them to be fixed as soon as possible. It is possible to avoid unexpected bugs, by doing regression, exploratory and sanity checks.

The best course of action is to let your test manager or test team know as soon as possible to adjust the planned process. In my experience, one of the most important qualities distinguishing junior team members from more experienced peers is the ability to communicate delays and other issues earlier in the process.
