I'm married with three kids. We home school our kids as well. Essentially we have commitments and financial responsibilities. So its a balance. A few things my wife and I have done to help with a situation like this: a) reduce the dependence on contract work - can you reduce your personal cost base? A penny saved is a penny earned. b) set boundaries on contract work where possible c) save as much as you can, create a buffer where possible and then leave (buying yourself sufficient personal runway to work on your venture d) quit - ensure you have created a personal financial structure to survive while you work on your venture e) delay quitting (once a,b & c satisfied above) Essentially, you need a plan. Otherwise both suffer.
