What do you do if stakeholders in a sustainability career need a deadline extension?

More often than not, most sustainable improvement projects are not time-sensitive. They are part of a long-term goal. For example, to be carbon neutral by 2050. When I miss a goal in a project, I first ask myself if my goal is realistic. More often than not, I tried to do a "grand reveal" instead of incremental progress and continually assessing. I am not saying you need to do a sprint cycle, just work towards realistic goals. Rome was not built in a day! A good example in my world is replacing Diesel Fuel with HVO. While critical to environmental impact long term, if I miss my goal by a month, it will not have a huge impact on the overall project.

This way, many roadmaps will have the need to be updated and if they too strict, they shall need to be started from the bottom again.
