To deal with such situations, doing your homework does help a lot. If your decision and it's overall impact on the product and how it's going to improve the life of your users in the long run isn't really clear in your head then no matter what evidence you produce , you won't be able to back it up with enough conviction. Thus diving deep into each data point of your research and understanding the why part of it will help you be prepared for all situations.

In such a case, use logical reasoning while interacting with the shareholder. Make a comparison version of the screen and show them why and what impact you feel one would bring. With logical expression and results, you can sync them along.

Consider that you might be wrong about something or that you might be bringing in your own biases and preferences. This shouldn't be happening often, but it could. If you can't clearly articulate why you made a certain decision, it might be worth revisiting.

An add on: Take a step back from your decision and see why it was not understandable. Reason being sometimes stakeholders may not know how exactly to define the problem but keep telling this will not work or agree with the decisioning. Once you ask the right question and get the answers explain your solution with the evident UX findings and reasoning and get feedback.

I view stakeholders as a distinct user group. When early engagement isn't possible, I use specific questions to align the solution with their perspective: - Do they possess sufficient context to understand the solution? - How do they perceive the problem we're addressing? - Are they willing to contribute ideas or insights that could influence our approach? - What aspects of the solution remain unclear to them? - Is it feasible to guide them through the solution step by step? - Can we present any test results to validate our approach? If not, how do we plan to address potential risks? Asking these questions helps to tailor communication and ensure that our design solution resonates effectively with stakeholders.
