What do you do if you receive conflicting feedback on your writing from multiple sources?

Start by carefully evaluating each piece of feedback and considering the perspective of the person providing it. Look for common themes or areas where multiple sources agree, as these may indicate areas for improvement. Additionally, consider the expertise and credibility of the individuals offering feedback – weigh feedback from experienced writers or industry professionals more heavily. Next, prioritize the feedback based on your own goals and vision for your writing. Focus on addressing the most critical issues first, while also considering the overall impact on your work. Finally, don't be afraid to seek clarification or additional feedback from the sources if necessary.

I would tackle this in a totally unorthodox manner. First of all, I would try to check the authenticity of the opinions. It would clarify whether the feedback is even relevant. Once done, I would pen down points that were highlighted through the opinions, preferably in a decreasing frequency order. I would then analyze whether those opinions are implementable and whether it would help improve the quality of my content. Once done, I would have a clear picture of what are the sources of the feedback, what issues are there in my writing and then I can move on to the next part: resolution.

Communication is key in resolving conflicting feedback and ultimately improving your writing. By staying open-minded, discerning, and proactive, you can navigate conflicting feedback effectively and continue to refine your craft.

It can also work well if there's a common suggestion, and you run it through the entire audience of yours. While it may not sound very impressive, but it will help you analyze whether there are some repercussions of the otherwise sounding good idea. Another thing that might happen is that you might find more insights into the idea you're probably already looking to implement.

Don't seek feedback on your writing if what you're really looking for is praise. If I give feedback and their first response is to debate why I'm wrong, then I'll stop giving feedback to that writer because they really don't want it. Seeking feedback on your writing is scary but necessary. No writer ever stops learning. And getting feedback from other writers is going to make you a better writer. There may be things about your story you simply don't want to change because they're part of the reason you even starting writing the piece. So if your character is a cat, and someone says it should be a dog. It's okay to keep your character a cat. It's a silly example, but the point is - know what aspects of your story you don't want to change.
