In my experience, I believe in process. In all cases I've encountered, processes can be created and fine tuned with checks and balances. We want efficiency but we also need to ensure that there are ways to validate a decision point. As an example an access control could be approved by a manager but what if training or education is a concern. Automation can be used to verify specific trainings were passed before allowing the manager to approve and even kick off annual audits. In other instances, ensuring there is a process that ensures all new systems are configured and added to company wide security monitoring polices and processes before being allowed to go into production status.

Identify what and where the communication templates will be so it isn't an added stress to figure out during an incident. You can even run drills to test and fine tune your incident response processes.

When working as a third party security contractor or via an agency, you may not be able to wholly resolve the cyber security incident on your own. Ensure your client and the users impacted have been adequately communicated too and are aware of the impact to their operations. Share your knowledge and experience to help guide and resolve the incident.
