What do you do if negative feedback arises during product development?

Critical feedback in incredibly important and as a founder or product developer, you need to cherish it. The worst thing that can happen is that people tell you what they think you want to hear and not what you need to hear! As a product developer, you need to ensure you have built a culture that embraces this.

You aren't your product. You are an advocate for solving the problem at hand. If the product isn't effectively solving the problem, pivot your thinking to being grateful for the feedback so you may reconsider your solution and experiment with a more effective approach to solving the problem.

Rather than thinking it is something "personal", I welcome constructive criticism and treat it as an opportunity to grow and learn from it. Flipping the script like this in my head is the first step towards building a growth mentality. I start by giving the individual or group of people the opportunity, time, and space to provide this criticism without interruption. This can be either through an exercise of focused listening or if they feel like they can articulate it better by writing it down. This allows me to understand the thinking and root of this criticism in its entirety rather than adding my own bias to it.
