After a layoff one may find it difficult to calm one self and get rid of the anxiety about the future. So firstly one has to make efforts to calm one self and accept the situation with courage. A stressed mind may not be as creative to design something new and brilliant. Relax your mind using the stress buster techniques that works best for you. Once your mind is at peace, think about the next job and modify your resume to highlight the skills that are relevant for the new job. If still you find it difficult, take help of an expert, hire someone who can do it for you.

2 Update your resume

Your resume is an important marketing tool that showcases your professional background, skills, and accomplishments. To update your resume, start with a strong summary statement that highlights your key skills and value to the employer. Review your work history and focus on the most relevant and recent positions. Before you start working on application material, make sure you are totally clear about what job you are now targetting. You need to tweak each application to ensure it is appropriately matched to the opportunity you are seeking. If your application is speculative, find some similar roles and use these to help you identify the core elements which are common to them all and include some stand out examples of each to demonstrate your ability in your CV and highlight them on your covering letter. This will help boost your morale too. Research the organisation you want to approach and contact them to get the actual name of the best person to contact. Sending it to the Hiring Manager will be seen as being lazy. Remember to follow up.
