What do you do if you need guidance in overcoming event planning challenges?

Community is the go-to solution. Reach out to fellow event planners and share your problem statement. Those who've been there, done that won't beat around the bush to give you a solution- they'd cut straight to the point. It reduces time, effort and stress. In turn, make sure you're also actively contributing to the community and sharing your insights.

Do not be afraid to ask for help! There are people in this industry across concentrations, who have seen the ups and downs of the event planning industry and navigated countless mistakes or challenges. Having a network, a mentor, or a community to turn to can help you to feel less alone and create opportunities to learn and grow.

Personally, I try to obtain mentorship and seek advice. I love surrounding myself with other professionals we’ve experienced a magnitude of events in different capacities. Building your network to have discussions with peers in your circle that may have experienced the same thing and getting ideas on improvement. Also I think social media is huge! Research, view large companies socials or even view some companies similar to your scope of events and go from there. Failure is just a process of growth; you have to be willing to take risks sometimes to know what you could’ve done better in the future. Seek feedback and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you’re stuck!

Collaboration is key. We tend to always seek out those who are much older and wiser than us but never be afraid to humble yourself and pick the brain of an intern or otherwise, sometimes fresh perspective is exactly what your event is lacking.

I ask questions. Talk to friends, mentors, colleagues. Don't try to do it alone and stay stuck. One of my mentors told me a long time ago - the only stupid question is the un-asked one.

Have at least one person on your team that isn't a yes man. We all need someone we trust to keep us in check when deadlines are approaching or the lack of sleep while managing a weekend conference has kicked in. If all else fails, a nap and a snack. ;)

Post-event analysis is crucial to understand the effectiveness of your strategy, and how it can be tailored to future engagements. I've found it especially helpful to categorize events where possible (eg. panel-based professional networking night), so that I can create targeted frameworks that I know will work best for the specific event type. As I've done more events, this process gets increasingly refined - but what's important here is understanding that no strategy is successful unless proven by measurable metrics.

When I was back to the office after recovering from accident, suddently I was dismissed from my position as the Product Specialist Manager I found many years ago and assigned as the Sales&Marketing assistant. Why? Because the company had never sold any Rodgers organ for several years. Clueless because I could not get any answer from my boss coming back from a Rodgers Seminar Workshop in Korea if my memory is ok. So, I only can give thanks to GOD and just say: I need Divine Connection. Glad that most Rodgers people are also church organists. Shortly, I got a call for help and the connection was the doctor we used to support a church together. Then, we got The Rodgers Concert & Master Class during the Moslem holiday and we got lots of sales.
