What do you do if you need to find the right salary range for your Agribusiness position?

Finding the right salary range for an agribusiness position in developing countries can be challenging because a lot of agribusiness employers have not standardized staff payment. They tend to explore less skilled and cheaper labour, taking advantage of the unemployed population's vulnerability. I remember a point in my career where I was recommended by someone confident of my capacity for a farm manager role. During my interview, the panel adjusted the role and told me that I would triple as the business developer and marketer but the proposed salary was ridiculous for such roles. I declined because I knew my value and had an idea of the salary range for such roles outside agribusiness. Sometimes, you may need to compare across sectors

Getting a benchmark is to a close better salary range is paramount. Despite research norms, there's need for inborn self confidence for an individual to position himself/herself within a good salary range. This is about knowing your value and having the confidence to bargain for it. My focus here is not just on global issues but also contextualizing to a typical African enterprise where there's always that switch of roles from the set roles bargained for. So do your research to know what it takes, then don't stay too comfortable with using it, but agile in putting your worth at the center of a deal as a young agribusiness professional who's still building.

This is very tempting because you can be giving set of roles and yet still not a salary equivalent for the roles. Strikely focus on your roles, then base on studying the company's history, you can then begin to: ? Outperform, ? Out-worked ? Out-strategize So you can position yourself for promotion and a better salary.

I have found most Agribusiness companies with international stature here in Kenya to be very dishonest in this aspect. You find an advert for a skilled role with humongous responsibilities that seriously touch the core of a business but when it comes to salary that's where they draw the line! Someone advertising for a senior technical position with very ridiculous salary package!!

Here is where employers should be clear to the applicants. Many job seekers with required skills have lost opportunities because their salary expectations are beyond company budget and it's not their fault at all. To help in this companies should be sincere and include salary package in the adverts. If you feel your offer is fair why hide it anyway !Or at least give a range then.

You truly can't negotiate fairly if you don't know your worth. You could even have the best ever deal base on your negotiation potentials. If you don't even have self confidence, this is not a regular one for you. You might just get it so wrong. My thoughts: Know your worth, evaluate your negotiation skills, then take the bold step and strike the deal.
